War Of the Worlds, a futuristic spin on the classic HG Wells novel with the largest cast ever assembled by Beau Jest. The company explored the original
1898 novel, the 1938 radio drama staged by Orson Welles, and a Jetson-esque
version of a modern invasion in which an advanced technological society is
attacked from all sides by unknown forces, destroyed, and everyone is
relieved Sets by Susan Zeeman Rogers, Costumes by Seth Bodie, Lights by
Mike Patterson, and live therimin accompaniment by John Hindmarsh.
"The group retains its sharp satire edge. Interspersed with the virus plot we get rich flashes of life in the Microsoft era, when Starbucks offers 'Sally Struthers Third World Blend' and babies are exposed in utero to instructional puppet shows. It's a testiment to Beau Jest's imaginative stage-craft that the show manages to engage even as it confuses, with particulary pleasing work from Beau Jest stalwarts Elyse Garfinkel, Mimi Jo Katano, and Larry Coen. Susan Zeeman Roger's Art Deco futuristic setting, Seth Bodie's far-out costumes, and Libby Marcus's delightful shadow puppets all conspire to keep the eye riveted."

"Beau Jest's trademark imaginative brand of staging eliminates the need for a road map.
You want dialog and stand-up comedy? It's all there, along with mime sequences, and endearingly goofy choreography, puppets, extraterrestrials constructed from flotsam and jetsam, and even an otherworldly musician, John Hindmarsh, drawing out haunting strains from the theremin.
Every Beau Jest fan -- and there's a slew of them -- has a favorite in the ensemble. In this corner, it's Elyse Garfinkel, the tiny, large-eyed waif who lives and breathes theatrical wonder. Other standouts are Larry Coen, Lisa Tucker, and newcomers Mike Farrell and Robert Deveau...director Davis Robinson is to be congradulated for producing a brand of mayhem that is continually a joy to watch."
-Boston Herald
"Their appearances have become something of an event. Happily 'War of the Worlds' exceeds all expectations. It's an event that's not to be missed, especially by fans of pop culture, sci-fi movies and just plain old-fashioned good satire."
